Los Angeles Times Festival of Books!

The official start of spring was March 20, but as far as I’m concerned the real kickoff to the season is the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books!

This two-day love fest of the written word occurs every year toward the end of April and is held at the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles. And I’m so happy that I was able to grab a friend and attend this past weekend!

As always, the only problem with the festival is the panel discussion schedule. There are so many fantastic panels that I sometimes end up having to flip a coin in order to choose between sessions that are being held at the same time.

The highlight for me was attending the #BlackGirlMagic panel, which featured Rebecca Carroll,  critic-at-large for the Los Angeles Times; Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl; Morgan Jenkins, author of “This Will Be My Undoing;” and Seattle-based writer Ijeoma Oluo.

That panel was time well spent to say the least!
But when I wasn’t luxuriating in panel discussions about the future of the publishing industry I was enjoying the beautiful SoCal weather, live festival music…and of course taking pictures with the USC mascot–Tommy Trojan.

I also couldn’t resist buying a new hat to keep the spring sun off my face.

Until next year!!
